Narratives inspired by my writing are used for the surfaces of the heads. The surface is used as a canvass for these stories and myths. The visual narrative unfolds or wraps around the circumference of the head forms. A wide variety of techniques, including screening, relief, stencils and cylinder seals are used along with underglaze pencils, chalks and brushwork to address the surface. I also make custom molds from plaster, silicon rubber, rubber latex and clay to make sprigs and volumetric forms to add to the heads. This gives me the ability to add 3-dimensional imagery along with the 2-dimensional imagery to create a richer and more complex surface.
